fachen

The Fachen is a monster from Irish legend. It is known to pursue and mutilate travelers, eventually killing them. It is covered by with feathers, having a tuft of them which grew like a comb on a cock's head. It has one mangled hand that grows from the center of its chest, and one leg that grows out of its body at an angle. It also has one eye set in the middle of its forehead. To look more menacing, it would ruffle up its feathers before attacking its victims.

fantine

These Swiss færies lived in the Vaud valleys. They would bring good weather for farmers, and if they particularly liked a farmer, they would supply his cows with bells so they could not become lost.

faun

The Fauns, which are asscociated with Satyrs, but are known to be more gentle, are mischievous creatures with the legs, ears and tail of a deer and the face and body of a handsome young man. They follow the god Faunus and can cause nightmares. At times, they can also be quite cheerful.

feng-huang

This bird, the Chinese equivalent of the phoenix, has three legs and lives in the sun. The Feng is the male and the Huang is the female, together symbolizing everlasting love. They have the head and comb of a pheasent and the feathers of a peacock. The plumage blends the five colours and the song of the bird is the harmony of the five notes. It has sometimes been associated with the roc.

fenoderee

The Fenoderee is the name of a Manx brownie. Unlike most brownies, he is the size of a human, and possesses supernatural strength. Supposedly he is a færie that was cast into the world of mortals for falling in love with a human girl. Although he is a singular creature, it seems he can be in more than one place at a time as many farmers have claimed to have seen him. Helpful like a brownie, he will desert a family if they give him a gift of clothing.

fenrir

Fenrir, also known as Fenris-wolf, is from Norse mythology. He is the son of Loki and the giantess, Angrboda. The brother of Hel and the Midgard Serpent, Fenrir was a fierce giant wolf. He was so dangerous the the gods decided to bind him in chains. After trying the strongest chains, which Fenrir broke, the gods made a magical invisible chain called Gleiphir which was made from many impossible substances including the roots of a mountain, the noise of a moving cat, the breath of a fish, the sinews of a bear, etc. It is said that during the mythical battle of Ragnorok, Fenrir will break free of the chain and will devour everything, including Odin, the king of the gods. However, Fenrir dies after killing Odin, as his son Vidar stabs him.

firbolgs

According to Irish legend, firbolgs were a race of beings from Europe who invaded Ireland. They were conquered by another group of beings, the Fomorians. They were later banished from Ireland by Tuatha de Danann. Their name means "people of the bogs".

fomorian

These were a savage group who became sea demons. They were another of the original groups that invaded Ireland. Ultimately, they were defeated by Tuatha de Denann,and they were driven into the sea.

fylgia

Fylgia is a Norwegian shadow soul, often an individual's guardian spirit. They are usually invisible and take an animal form in dreams. On the rare occasion that they are seen by someone who is awake, it is an omen of death. Some legends imply that it is adoppelganger.
