NEW PICTURES OF IXODES HOLOCYCLUS

This tick was removed from a cat suffering stage 1B tick poisoning, suburban Wollongong NSW, Sep 06, 2002.

It was only weakly attached. It can be seen that the feeding tube, or hypostome, is still intact (ventrolateral view) indicating that the process of tick removal did not break it. It was, therefore, probably about to drop off.

Please note that there can be considerable colour variations - although this example is fairly typical of this late stage of engorgment.
